SAFE SHELTER OF ST. VRAIN VALLEY is
a 501(c)3 agency, in existence since 1978.
Safe Shelter serves the geographical jurisdiction of northeast
Boulder County including Longmont and its surrounding areas,
as well as, southwest Weld County. The mission of Safe
Shelter is to provide safety, support and resources to
individuals affected by domestic abuse. We promote empowerment
through direct services and community education, advocating
for the right of every individual to live a life free of
intimidation, exploitation and abuse.
Personnel
Safe Shelter currently employs full-time/part-time career
staff, with 20-30 volunteers and interns.
Education
The agency currently has speakers to address the issues
of domestic violence, teen-dating
abuse and elder abuse. Training and education is provided
for community organizations, law enforcement and service
providers. On hand are additional videos, a library of
books, safety packets
and
other domestic
violence
community
materials.
Direct Services
All Safe Shelter services are provided to clients at no cost.
Individuals affected by domestic violence do not
have to be
housed in the shelter to be eligible for
services.
Outreach Services
- Services are provided regardless of
ethnicity, sex, religion, disability, race, sexual orientation,
color, gender identify, marital status, age, national origin,
or documentation status.
- Individual and group counseling for adults, elderly,
children, youth and teens
- Children, Youth and Teen counseling, both
1:1 and in group settings
- Advocate facilitated support
groups
- Crisis intervention and safety planning
- Information, resources and referrals
- Legal Advocacy: assistance with permanent
and temporary civil protection orders. Criminal justice
advocacy and court accompaniment.

to appropriate legal agencies.
- Transitional Housing: Safe Shelter has
programs that provide transitional housing for qualified
clients and their children
for up to
1 year. Safe Shelter provides transitional housing support through
referral and case management services to facilities
in Longmont and Boulder.
- Intern program for bachelor and graduate
level students.
- TERA (Teens
Ending Relationship Abuse) Program. TERA is a prevention/education
program for youth
that uses high school students as "peer educators." TERA
exists to create awareness among middle and high school students
about unhealthy and abusive relationships.The TERA Program
hopes to encourage teens to create positive healthy relationships
and to safely intervene when they or a friend is in an unhealthy
relationship.
- Financial Assistance: Safe Shelter is
able to provide limited emergency funds to their clients
on a case by case basis.
Safe Shelter
of provides all services on a sliding fee scale. No victim of abuse will
be turned away for lack of funds.

Shelter
- Safe
Shelter provides residential safe shelter to women
and child victims of domestic violence. Maximum
stay
is six weeks on a case by case basis. Shelter
staff provides intake
and assessment. Services are limited to female
and child victims in imminent danger. 24 hour day admittance.

- Safety is
the number one focus of the shelter and
therefore, it is in a confidential location.
If safety of a client
is compromised, Safe Shelter will work with
her to have her
moved to another location.
