LONGMONT SENIOR SERVICES is a portion of a municipal agency, in existence for 28 years. The mission of Longmont Senior Services is to build and foster opportunities that promote independence, sense of enjoyment, dignity of older adults and sense of community purpose. Longmont Senior Services serves the geographical jurisdiction of the City of Longmont and its surrounding areas.

Personnel

Senior Services is open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. The Senior Center has over 20,000 square feet with classrooms, offices, and activity rooms. The city employs 1 ½ full-time employees in recreation, 1 full-time employee as a licensed therapist, and 1 full-time bilingual/bi-cultural employee for information and referral.

Education

Various educational and supportive services are scheduled for individuals 55 years and older or for those caring for those 55 years and older. Senior Services can assist individuals in the access of a large number of resources, concerns, and situations many older people encounter. Shelter None. Senior Services does however serve as designated case managers for 55+ referrals to the Inn Between. Resource staff may be able to access dollars to assist.

Direct Services

Eight visits free with licensed therapist. Free peer-counseling services. Some services available to adults caring for an older person. The following support groups regarding a variety of issues are offered: Grief, Parkinsons, Caregiver, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and a Single Women’s group. Monthly art-based groups for women who are or have been in controlling or abusive relationships are offered. Supportive services are free. Recreational activities frequently have a fee (scholarships may be available for those individuals who qualify). Senior Services does help individuals’ access existing resources.

Support

Senior Services has one-on-one emotional support, socialization activities and a variety of support groups.
