History, Mission, & Goals

History:

In 1998, Longmont had a series of violent domestic violence cases that resulted in the tragic death of five women and children. Many people close to the victims knew about the abuse but didn’t know how to help. Because of this, the Longmont Ending Violence Initiative (LEVI) was created to make sure no one else would be left without support.
In 2002, LEVI officially began working to bring the whole community together to raise awareness and respond to domestic violence.

Mission Statement:

To establish a coordinated community-wide awareness and response to domestic violence within the St. Vrain Valley School District.

Vision:

LEVI acknowledges domestic violence is a serious and prevalent problem that affects many people in the City of Longmont. We want to make sure everyone has access to helpful services, knows how to support others, and has chances to learn more. We believe that by working together, we can effectively bring attention and resist domestic violence in our community.

Goals:

PREVENTION

Empower the community to stop violence before it starts by offering educational presentations, trainings, and public events.

INTERVENTION

Identify and fill gaps in services for those seeking assistance.

AWARENESS

Teach the community about domestic violence, improve how people think about it, and encourage action through public information and outreach.
